We develop grazing programs to reduce wildfire by creating or maintaining fuel breaks, controlling undesirable vegetation, encouraging desirable vegetation and improving wildlife habitat with a herd catered to your needs. Be it all sheep, all goats, or a mix of the two. From ten to thousands ,we adapt our process to meet your needs.

Prior to beginning a project, we will conduct a site visit to assess all aspects of your unique property that may be important to us in planning your project.

  • Site Conditions

Before providing the client with a quote for service, the following factors will be evaluated by Star Creek Land Stewards staff: The size of your project (number of acres), steepness of slope, time of year, and vegetation type and density (grass, brush, invasive plants) are additional factors used to determine the overall cost for services.

  • Transportation

With our clients help we can determine the right option for the situation. Star Creek Land Stewards has pick-up trucks with gooseneck trailers and access to semi truck livestock trailers to bring animals to the site. Staff and the client will evaluate access roads, gates, bridges, turnarounds and other access features to see what works best at the site. In some cases where the site is not easily accessed by a truck and trailer we may be able to walk our animals directly to and from the site from a location in which trucks are accessible.

  • Other Conditions to Consider

Predation, proximity to vulnerable or high risk areas (such as schools, homes without bordering fence lines, or busy roadways/highways), active work sites, and homeless encampments all need to be disclosed and discussed prior to grazing projects.

  • Water

Gaining access to the site and determining drinking water sources for the animals are critical considerations. Options for animal drinking water include on-site hose bib, fire hydrant with hydrant meter from location-specific water district or previously established livestock watering system and transportation of water to the site from an off-site location.
